6-Inch Scale

The standard for action figure collecting. Marvel Legends, Star Wars Black Series, DC Multiverse—all use 6-inch scale (roughly 15cm). This scale became the collector standard because figures are affordable (€20-35), displayable without massive space requirements, and manufacturers can produce them at quality levels that satisfy adult collectors.

6-inch figures typically include 20+ points of articulation, alternate hands, accessories, and sometimes Build-a-Figure parts (collect the whole wave, combine extra pieces to build a bonus figure). They're the sweet spot between affordability and quality.

7-Inch Scale

NECA and McFarlane Toys dominate 7-inch. NECA specializes in horror and movie licenses—Freddy, Jason, Alien, Predator. Their 7-inch Ultimate figures come loaded with accessories and alt parts. McFarlane handles DC Multiverse at this scale, offering comic-accurate DC characters with impressive sculpts and paint.

7-inch is slightly larger than 6-inch (obviously), which gives sculptors more surface area for detail. They don't mix well with 6-inch collections due to scale mismatch, but if you're collecting a single license at this scale, the detail level impresses.

12-Inch / 1:6 Scale

Premium territory. Hot Toys and Sideshow operate here with figures that cost €300-600. These use fabric costumes, real metal parts, LED lights, and movie-accurate head sculpts. They're museum-quality pieces that happen to have articulation.

Mezco's One:12 Collective splits the difference—6-inch figures with fabric costumes and premium quality at €80-120. They bring high-end techniques to smaller scale.

Build-a-Figure Programs

Marvel Legends pioneered this: each figure in a wave includes one piece of a larger figure. Collect all 6-8 figures in the wave, combine the extra parts, build a character that wouldn't get released solo (usually larger characters like Apocalypse or Sentinel). It's addictive and expensive if you want the Build-a-Figure but only care about two figures in the wave.
