Inside combined the cunning of thinking beings and the savagery of wild beasts.Long horns, bladed claws and wicked maws of countless teeth they had. The sharp, slitted eyes of the Dragons were ever-watchful, their sense of smell keen, and their long bodies grew to a size unrivalled by any other creatures to walk upon the earth. Some were winged, able to take to the skies and travel vast distances like the wind. Others burned with fiery wrath inside, spewing conflagration and death from their outstretched jaws at will. And in some such abilities were paired to terrifying effect...By the later years of the Third Age only a few remained, mostly sequestered in the scorched lands of the Withered Heath, far to the north and pinned between the spurred arms of the Grey Mountains. For a Wizard whose errands took him all over Middle-earth, the sleepy hills and quiet hamlets of the Shire were a sanctuary. Strolling between verdant hedgerows and bursting gardens, Gandalf the Grey enjoyed the company of the Hobbits living there: a gentle people of naïve eccentricities, and makers of the finest pipe weed in all the lands.On a fine evening Gandalf might be found sitting outside Bag End with Bilbo or Frodo Baggins, pipes in hand, blowing smoke rings which the Wizard brought to life with subtle magic.The Pipe of Gandalf the Grey was created for The Lord of the Rings by the artists at the 3Foot6 Art Department, and comes complete with Tamper. This non-functional prop replica has been created from molds of the original prop used in the film, using the same high impact urethane material as the props on set and finished using the same techniques and materials to achieve the same well-loved look as it has in the film. Its skin was nigh impervious to weapons forged of iron, a testament to the unforgiving nature of the dark places of the world where it dwelt. Clutched within its colossal three-fingered grasp was a mighty stone hammer, a fearsome instrument of destruction that it wielded with blind fury. With each thunderous swing, friend and foe alike were laid low, crushed beneath the indiscriminate wrath of the beast as it stormed through the chaotic melee, seeking out its quarry with a relentless fervour that echoed the darkness of its masters' hearts.The Cave Troll was the first creature to be designed for the iconic film trilogy, and Weta Workshop sculptor Jamie Beswarick played a key role in its overall design. In those early days, the look and feel of Middle-earth's inhabitants were still being defined, with artists encouraged to envision not only their appearances but also their habits and histories. This approach aimed to develop a level of authenticity that went beyond the typical fantasy genre.Consequently, these lumbering giants were endowed with thick hides, three-fingered hands, powerful jaws, and claws suited for digging. It was these defining characteristics that Jamie Beswarick was once again tasked with recreating, this time in miniature form. By capturing the raw strength and ferocity of such a creature, and infusing each detail with untamed wrath and fury, our incredible team has managed to capture the very essence of this behemoth. Gimli, son of Glóin, was one of the nine members of the fellowship of the Ring, and the only dwarf among its ranks.During the War of the Ring, Gimli formed part of an unlikely trio of warriors, alongside Legolas the Elf and Aragorn of the Dúnedain. Their skills being surprisingly complementary, they fought alongside each other and overcame many insurmountable odds along their travels.Gimli accomplished many feats throughout his life, playing an instrumental role in the battle of Helms Deep, the battle at Pelennor Fields and the battle at the Black Gate. As a gift he was granted three strands of hair from the Lady Galadriel, earning himself the name 'Lockbearer'.
